A lot of times when I describe a movie, I have to preface it with …
” Now , Its not for everybody ”
One of the filmmakers who definitely isn’t for everybody is Spain’s Álex de la Iglesia.
His films have this weird ” Roadrunner ” cartoon Insanity, mixed with very adult amounts of sex and violence.
However if I was going to recommend one of his movies to someone who’s never seen one. It would be his love letter to the Spaghetti Western, 800 BULLETS
Unlike most of his films there is a sweetness to this movie, and a childlike love for the low budget westerns that were shot in the Spanish desert in the 60’s and 70’s.
The film centers around a young boy who finds out his late father was a stuntman in westerns. To learn more about this dad, he runs away to meet his grandfather who has turned a old town that was used to film Spaghetti Western’s.
Into a low rent tourist trap.
When the boy’s mother finds out , she takes revenge on her ex-father in-law by selling the town out from under him to foreign land developers.
Unfortunately for her …
These lifelong stuntmen have a few tricks up their sleeves.
WARNING , SPOILERS AND VIOLENCE AHEAD!
